Last Saturday from noon to 5pm, we hosted Laguna: An Art Show at Santa Cruz Art Center inside Laguna Studios(owned by Dante Cavazos), right next to 11th Hour Coffee in Downtown Santa Cruz.

It was a laid-back daytime show with great light, steady foot traffic, and exactly the kind of community energy we hoped for.

The Work

Each of us brought something different to the walls.

Dante Cavazos focused on hardcore and punk concert photography. A standout piece featured Sammy Ciaramitaro, lead singer of Drain, mid-set — intense, commanding, and fully in the moment.

Enzo Ramirez records many of those same shows, and his concert videography added movement and atmosphere to the space.

My work was centered on Japan and cars. One key image was my shot of Sal Barbier jumping over a Porsche 944 at RADwood SoCal 2018 — skate and Rad-era car culture colliding in one frame. I also showed a few of my illustrator pieces, and a number of photos from my recent trips to Japan.

Paolo Lekai exhibited film prints from his recent trip to Majorca, Spain, along with his automotive photography — including Porsches — all presented with the rich texture that film does best.

Thank You

We had an excellent time and truly appreciate everyone who came through to support us.

Laguna Studios will be open most weekdays if you’d like to stop by. We’ll also be hosting a closing show in about a month — stay tuned to our Instagram accounts and the Gear Boyz Podcast for details.

Thanks again, Santa Cruz.
